BUFFALO, NY – On Saturday, Rasmus Ristolainen scored late in regulation to lift the Sabres to a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

Former Sabres netminder, Ryan Miller, took the loss in his return to Buffalo.

“It’s been kind of the script for a lot of our third periods, so at some point we have to take issue with it,” Miller said of the late goal. “We’ve talked about it. Maybe that one will be our wakeup call.”PHN_BSOG-200x133

Miller was traded to St Louis in 2014.

“This happens a lot in this league when you have to go back,” Miller said. “But just for me, it was a big part of my life, and it was nice to come back here. Would have been nice to have a better ending, but that’s how it goes.”

Ristolainen’s game-winner came from the blue line.

“He’s got an unbelievable shot,” the Sabres’ Marcus Foligno said. “Sometimes in practice it doesn’t stay low sometimes, but it’s a cannon. He’s got a heavy, heavy shot and one of the most underrated shots in the NHL. He’s so young so it’s going to get better and better. When he can snap it like that, it’s just a for-sure goal.”

Linus Ullmark made 35 saves for the Sabres in the win.

“When you’re into things, you want to get to start every day,” Ullmark said. “I’m just happy when I’m here, and they say I’m not going to start, of course I’m not going to sit around and be sorry for myself if I don’t get to start. But I just feel that when you’re getting the starts and you’re getting the flow every time and you’re keeping your confidence probably high.”
